We are World Champions! Chile was chosen as the World’s Leading Green Destination 2022 by the World Travel Award (WTA), known as the Oscars of Tourism.

This recognition is a great pride for our country and tourism, which has made an effort to provide an unforgettable and environmentally friendly experience.

What is a Green Destination?

Green Destinations are tourist places that allow us to enjoy ourselves, while always taking care of the ecosystem and biodiversity in the area, the sustainability and conservation of the natural and cultural environment we visit. But it is not only about nature because the efforts from each country and its communities to take care of our planet are also important.

The title of World’s Leading Green Destination 2022 obtained by Chile is related to different initiatives, such as rural tourism, the local flora and fauna protection, and our country’s heritage preservation.

We want to show you some of the experiences that make us the World’s Leading Green Destination.

  1. Huilo Huilo: The Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve is a forest of more than 100,000 hectares with magnificent waterfalls, native forests, and Darwin’s frogs! These are endangered species. They are one of the most protected animals in Chile.

  1. Cabo de Hornos: This area, the southernmost headland of Chile, has protected areas of mini forests of Patagonian lichens and includes several ecotourism initiatives.

  1. Futaleufú: Located in the Chilean Patagonia, this area stands out for the conservation of the Futaleufú river basin and the care of its aquatic species.

  1. 4. Cochamó: This area has improved its biodiversity conservation in the last few years through Tagua Tagua Park, which, apart from being a tourist place, has as its purpose to protect the native species and promote scientific research.

  1. Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine: This National Park was declared a World’s Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1979. This area includes the local communities within its tourist offer, highlighting the value of the indigenous people and their traditions while protecting and preserving nature.
